Update!

Since the last time I have blogged, not a lot has been going on.  We redid our living room, which I will do a separate post on (since I think it’s awesome), and are currently doing our master bedroom and nursery floors.  More to come on that as well.  It’s been a SLOW progression.  I think a lot of our energy was taken out on the kitchen, and we just need a break.  But nothing will force ya to get things done quite like a baby coming in 11 weeks.  You read that right, 11 weeks!!! That is insane.  I am officially in my third trimester and couldn’t be more excited.

Another big change is going to be taking place soon.  I will be leaving my full time job, to become a stay at home mom.  This is something that I have always known that I wanted, and to be able to have the opportunity to do so is such a blessing.  I decided that I would pick up an old hobby and start a YouTube channel again!  I used to have one back in college where I did a lot of makeup tutorials.  I ended up stopping it when I started working full time since a 40+ hour a week job was more than enough. I really regret stopping since it was something I truly loved doing.

I started this channel back up last week and hope to be able to post a video or two a week in the future!  I will also be keeping this blog to coordinate with that channel.  So if you see things switch up a bit, you know why!

I hope this is a change you are all excited to see, and hope you stick along with me!

Emily

Kitchen Renovation- Floors

Sorry this post is coming so late!  So much has been going on in the Sunshine Corner! I will have LOTS of updates for you guys.  I know it has been about 2 months since my last post, and the kitchen is 90% done! And boy, does it look amazing!!  I left off with the kitchen as a blank slate,  everything demolished. We put up the drywall, and it was time for the floors!

This post is mainly about our massive floor overhaul!!  Since the original kitchen had tile floors, and the dining room has wood floors,  we decided to extend the hardwood floors throughout the entire space!  I love hardwood floors throughout a house, so it was a no brainer for me. We were going to simply cut back some of the original wood floors since they were “tongue and groove” and insert the new floors in, but that didn’t work out.  Since a wall was in between the two rooms, it caused some of the board to be cut weird, thus ruining the “tongue and groove”, resulting in us having to remove ALL of the floors and start over in the area.  It ended up working out great though. We also chose to go a different color than the rest of the house for stain.  Our current floors are a light honey maple color, and I really love a solid darker wood floor.  Luckily Matt was on board and we are planning on redoing the floors throughout the entire house- but one thing at a time!

We chose to use Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut.  We used one coat of the stain, with two coats of Minwax Super Fast Dry Polyurethane.   We seriously could not be any happier with how it looks!  I cannot wait to redo the rest of the house!

Also, keep in mind that we will be painting all of the trim white, so it looks funny for now.

I am so obsessed!

Look out for my next post!!! That may show where we are up date!!!

I hope you love it as much as I do!!!

I have a YouTube channel!

Hey everyone! Guess what! I started a youtube channel so I can film some vlogs and tutorials along with this blog!

I did the 20 question tag, so you all can get to know me a little bit better! I had a lot of fun filming this, and hope you enjoy watching it!!

Let me know if you would like to see more vlogs or have any think you would like to see!

2 Months To Go!!!

I cannot even believe I am typing these words- I am getting married in TWO MONTHS!!!! Yes, you read that right.  Two months from today.  That is insane.  We have been engaged for 18 months now, and to think the wedding is so soon, is just unreal.  This weekend we are having a combo bachelor/bachelorette party thrown for us by my best friend and maid of honor, and then in 2 weeks we are having our separate parties!  Crazy! Looking at the calendar freaked me out, because every single weekend we have things going on until the wedding!  This past weekend I spent hours at both my dress fitting and making our invitations!  I will show an update on those once I get more done and can show you- they are so cute!!

Speaking of wedding dresses… I bought my dress with the intention of losing some weight before the big day… yeah… about that… I’ve gained 5lbs instead.  Now that I am running out of time, I am getting serious again.  I just can’t believe how fast time flies! I am going to start eating healthier and going to the gym around 5 times a week until the wedding (hopefully!!!) I would like to lose about 10lbs total for the big day.  I think I can do it!

I am really trying to get healthier per my “happiness project” and this will just take it one step farther!

Completely Exhausted

Well, the last 2 weeks have been the most stressful and exhausting weeks of my life.  Last week the company I work for held its annual convention, this year in Philadelphia.  It was so stressful yet wonderful.  I love where I work, so it was nice to spend time with the people I am close with, doing what we love.  But I did work a total of 81.25 hours.  Yes, you read that right.  81.25 hours in 6 days.  That is INSANE, people! It was completely exhausting, but so worth it.

But then, the inevitable happened.  It all caught up to me.  I arrived back to Chicago late Sunday night (after a 3 hour delay, of course) and started getting a little bit congested Monday morning. Tuesday it hit me like a big ol’ bus.  102 fever, chills, body ache, sweating, congestion, and pounding headache.  I was absolutely so miserable! Luckily I got over this very quickly.  I give credit to lots of rest, emergen-c, and raw garlic (2 whole cloves to be exact) I am still very congested, but I will take it over everything else.

So, I will try to get my normal post out this weekend, but this was just the explanation where i have been.

If you would like to hear more about my trip to Philly and see some photos of my sightseeing, or anything like that, let me know!

First Outfit of the Day

It isn’t very often that I find myself wanting to post an outfit of the day.  During the week, I wake up at 5:30am and really don’t have the motivation to put together a cute outfit.  On the rare days I do, I feel the need to document them!  This outfit is my new favorite! It is so comfortable, but cute at the same time.

Don’t mind my awkward selfies! Remember, this is my first outfit of the day! Image

*I spy a puppy! And random wood swatches to redo our floors!*Image

ImageLets hope that future selfies aren’t so awkward! haha

  • Shirt is from Target
  • Black jeggings are Nine West American Vintage in Missy, but they don’t make them anymore.  Here is a similar pair.
  • Boots are Madden Girl
  • Purse is from ShopLately, one of my new favorite websites!

I hope you enjoyed this outfit of the day!  Let me know if you are interested in seeing more posts like this, or what you would like to see!

“from my shower to yours”

Well, it happened! We had our wedding shower!  I cannot believe that it is actually over! It’s almost like a wedding; so much work and excitement goes into it, and then *poof* its done!

We had our shower at a well known Greek restaurant by our house, and it could not have gone better.  The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and it seemed to be enjoyed by all!  We had about 85 people in attendance, and while that seems like a huge number (it is, actually) it never felt crowded or impersonal! We really wanted to keep the intimate feel to all of our wedding events, despite having such a large amount of people.

One of the things I am most excited to share with you all is the favor that I gave out!  We did a 3 tier soaps from the Wild Herb Soap Company in a glittery bag with a tag saying “From my shower to your”.  I thought it turned out amazing, and everyone seemed to love it!

Here is a little glimpse into our shower!

Overall, I am so sad that the shower is over, but so excited that our actual wedding day is in 3 months!!!

Let me know if you like wedding updates and ideas like this, or what you would like to know!
