Kitchen Renovation- Floors

Sorry this post is coming so late!  So much has been going on in the Sunshine Corner! I will have LOTS of updates for you guys.  I know it has been about 2 months since my last post, and the kitchen is 90% done! And boy, does it look amazing!!  I left off with the kitchen as a blank slate,  everything demolished. We put up the drywall, and it was time for the floors!

This post is mainly about our massive floor overhaul!!  Since the original kitchen had tile floors, and the dining room has wood floors,  we decided to extend the hardwood floors throughout the entire space!  I love hardwood floors throughout a house, so it was a no brainer for me. We were going to simply cut back some of the original wood floors since they were “tongue and groove” and insert the new floors in, but that didn’t work out.  Since a wall was in between the two rooms, it caused some of the board to be cut weird, thus ruining the “tongue and groove”, resulting in us having to remove ALL of the floors and start over in the area.  It ended up working out great though. We also chose to go a different color than the rest of the house for stain.  Our current floors are a light honey maple color, and I really love a solid darker wood floor.  Luckily Matt was on board and we are planning on redoing the floors throughout the entire house- but one thing at a time!

We chose to use Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut.  We used one coat of the stain, with two coats of Minwax Super Fast Dry Polyurethane.   We seriously could not be any happier with how it looks!  I cannot wait to redo the rest of the house!

Also, keep in mind that we will be painting all of the trim white, so it looks funny for now.

I am so obsessed!

Look out for my next post!!! That may show where we are up date!!!

I hope you love it as much as I do!!!

Kitchen Demolition

Well, if you have read this blog before, you know that we were going to remodel our house, then got an offer to sell it, but that fell through, so back to remodeling!  I am happy that the offer fell through, because we love this house.  Our goal was to turn it into our dream house, and we are back at it!

We started this project very quickly, and a few days later- this is our progress!

The before of our kitchen.  All 1950’s style…

We decided to tear down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room to open the whole space up a bit.  It’s incredible how much better it looks!

(You have to stop for some puppy love)

So, this is where we are at! A whole lot of demo done, and a whole lot of dust!

We are 90% through the demolition. Maybe in my next post I will go through a list of what we have to do, and what we have finished.

Cross your fingers that this goes smoothly!
